Chicken Friendly Practice

Backyard poultry keeping has grown hugely in popularity, with an estimated 1.3 million households in the UK now keeping chickens at home. In our experience, small-scale keepers are often left wondering which vet they should contact when their birds become sick or injured. Should they see a small animal pet vet or a large animal farm vet? And will either practice stock poultry-specific products?

At Amethi, we have recognised a growing need in our area for chicken-friendly veterinary support for smallholders and backyard flock owners. For this reason, we are delighted to have become an Associated Practice of The Chicken Vet UK.

Based in Exmouth, The Chicken Vet was founded by a team of veterinary surgeons with a special interest in poultry medicine. They provide dedicated advice and support for backyard enthusiasts, fancy fowl breeders and small flock keepers.

By becoming an Associated Practice, we are able to:

  • Collaborate with specialist poultry vets for support with clinical cases
  • Access a carefully selected range of poultry-specific products
  • Undertake further training in poultry medicine

Our goal is to provide an accessible, affordable and knowledgeable veterinary service for small poultry flocks, offering clarity and confidence when it comes to your birds’ health.

You will also find us listed on their online vet finder as a “Chicken Friendly” practice. This aligns with our ethos that all farm species are welcome here at Amethi.

Alongside this, we also run a chicken special interest group in collaboration with our clients and friends at Trerise Farm. This group is called Cluck Club, and further details can be found on our Facebook page.
